Psychiatric service dog letter in Wyoming

Wyoming doesn't write its own service animal rulebook for public places. Instead, Wyo. Stat. 35-13-201 sets a right of full and equal access and refers to the federal ADA regulations, so the two-question rule applies statewide.

How Wyoming PSD Letter works

A licensed clinician evaluates you by telehealth, asking about your symptoms and the specific tasks your dog has learned. If you qualify, the signed letter is emailed within 24 hours after approval, ready for a Wyoming rental. If not, no letter is issued.

Who it’s for, and who it isn’t

May be a fit

  • Wyoming handlers whose dog is trained to do tasks for a psychiatric condition
  • Renters who need to document that need for a landlord
  • Handlers with up to 3 trained dogs

Usually not a fit

  • Dogs that comfort without trained tasks; an ESA letter fits
  • Anyone hoping a letter will qualify an untrained dog
  • Anyone under 18

What’s included

  • Telehealth evaluation with a licensed clinician
  • Signed letter with the clinician's license type, number and state
  • $149 covers 1 or 2 dogs and $229 covers 3
  • Emailed within 24 hours after approval

Possible side effects

  • No medical side effects
  • Under Wyoming law the business isn't responsible if a service animal causes harm or damage, so that risk sits with you
  • Knowingly misrepresenting an animal's status is a misdemeanor in Wyoming

This isn’t a complete list. Your clinician reviews risks, interactions and warnings with you before prescribing. In an emergency, call 911.

What the evidence says

HUD's May 2026 enforcement guidance presumes housing requests for task-trained dogs are reasonable. Wyoming adopts the ADA's treatment of service animals in public accommodations and facilities, which limits businesses to two questions and bars documentation demands.

Public places in Wyoming

Because Wyoming follows the federal regulations, a business may ask only whether a disability requires your dog and what it has been trained to do. A letter can't be demanded.

Wyoming service animal rules

  • Section 35-13-205 counts miniature horses, and dogs still learning their tasks, as service animals.
  • Wyoming has no separate trainer access rule; that definition is what lets dogs in training in.
  • Under 35-13-203, interfering with someone's rights under the chapter is a misdemeanor, fined up to $750.
  • A business isn't responsible for harm done by a service animal, or by an animal it reasonably believed in good faith was one.
  • Under 35-13-206, deliberately hurting a service or assistance animal can lead to jail, fines reaching $5,000 and required restitution.

Housing with a PSD in Wyoming
