How Wegovy® Pills works
Book a live visit with a licensed clinician. If the Wegovy pill suits you, your prescription is sent directly to NovoCare Pharmacy, which bills you for the medicine and ships it to your home. Your HealifyMD program fee covers the clinical care.
Who it’s for, and who it isn’t
May be a fit
- Adults with a BMI of 30 or more, or 27 or more with a weight-related condition
- People who want semaglutide without injections
- People who can take a tablet first thing every morning and wait 30 minutes before eating
- Adults with heart disease and excess weight, where Wegovy is also approved to lower cardiovascular risk
Usually not a fit
- Anyone with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (MEN 2)
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding or plans to conceive soon
- A history of pancreatitis or severe gastrointestinal disease such as gastroparesis, unless your clinician advises otherwise
- Anyone already taking another GLP-1 or tirzepatide product
- Anyone under 18
What’s included
- Live visit with a licensed clinician
- A Wegovy pill prescription sent to NovoCare Pharmacy, only if it is medically appropriate
- Monthly dose-step plan and help with the morning routine
- Follow-up for side effects and dose questions
- Subscription you can cancel anytime
Possible side effects
- Common: nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, stomach pain, indigestion and reduced appetite, mostly while doses are rising
- Less common but serious: pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, kidney injury from dehydration and low blood sugar when combined with insulin or a sulfonylurea
- Seek urgent care for severe stomach pain that does not go away, signs of an allergic reaction or trouble swallowing
- Boxed warning: semaglutide caused thyroid C-cell tumors in rodents; whether it does in people is unknown
- Oral semaglutide can raise levothyroxine levels, so tell your clinician if you take thyroid medicine
This isn’t a complete list. Your clinician reviews risks, interactions and warnings with you before prescribing. In an emergency, call 911.
What the evidence says
The Wegovy pill was approved in December 2025 and launched in the U.S. in January 2026. In the 64-week OASIS 4 trial of the 25 mg dose, average weight loss was 13.6% versus 2.4% on placebo, and close to 17% among people who kept taking it as directed.
What you pay, and to whom
Your HealifyMD program is $75 a month, or $150 for 3 months ($50 a month), for your live clinician visit, the prescription if you qualify and follow-up.
The medicine is paid separately to NovoCare Pharmacy. If prescribed, your prescription goes straight to NovoCare for billing and home delivery. Current self-pay prices:
- $149/month: 1.5 mg
- $199/month: 4 mg
- $299/month: 9 mg and 25 mg
The morning routine matters
Semaglutide is a protein-like molecule, and only a small share of a tablet is absorbed. To get the full dose, take one tablet as soon as you wake, on an empty stomach, with no more than 4 ounces of plain water. Swallow it whole, then wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything else or taking other pills.
If you miss a dose, skip it and take the next one the following morning. Never take two at once.
How the doses step up
You start at 1.5 mg once a day for 30 days, then move to 4 mg and 9 mg, each for about 30 days, before reaching the 25 mg maintenance dose. Your clinician can slow the pace if nausea is a problem.
Pill or injection
The pill and the weekly Wegovy injection contain the same medicine. The injection needs no morning routine but involves a needle; the pill avoids needles but asks for daily discipline. Foundayo is another pill option, with no food or water rules. Your clinician can help you weigh them up.
Safety points to know first
Like every semaglutide product, the Wegovy pill has a boxed warning about thyroid C-cell tumors in rodents and is not used by anyone with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2. Stomach side effects are common at first. Tell your clinician about all your medicines, especially levothyroxine, insulin or sulfonylureas.
Prescription treatments are available only to eligible patients after a clinical evaluation by an independently licensed clinician.
Wegovy® Pills: common questions
