Weight loss program membership for people on branded GLP-1s

If your insurance covers a branded GLP-1 medicine like Wegovy or Zepbound, this program gives you a licensed clinician to manage the parts that a prescription alone doesn't: side effects, dose questions, muscle preservation, labs and a plan for the long term.

How Weight Loss Program Membership works

You complete an online assessment and meet a licensed clinician. If you are eligible and your plan covers a branded GLP-1, the medicine is dispensed by your usual pharmacy under your pharmacy benefit. HealifyMD provides the clinical oversight around it: monitoring, adjustments, side-effect support and a long-term plan.

Who it’s for, and who it isn’t

May be a fit

  • Adults whose insurance covers a branded GLP-1 medicine such as Wegovy (semaglutide) or Zepbound (tirzepatide)
  • People starting a branded GLP-1 who want structured follow-up between visits
  • People already on treatment who want help with side effects, plateaus or protecting muscle
  • People thinking ahead about maintenance or tapering

Usually not a fit

  • People without insurance coverage for a branded GLP-1 who expect the medicine to be included
  • Anyone with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN2 (GLP-1 medicines are contraindicated)
  • Pregnancy or plans to conceive soon
  • Urgent symptoms such as severe abdominal pain or persistent vomiting, which need in-person care
  • Anyone under 18

What’s included

  • A licensed clinician who oversees your weight-loss care
  • Check-ins on a schedule your clinician sets, plus messaging between visits
  • Side-effect management and dose-step guidance in line with the FDA label
  • Tracking of weight, waist, and when appropriate body composition and lab markers
  • Nutrition, protein and strength-training guidance to help preserve muscle
  • No extra fees beyond the program price (from $75/month); labs priced separately

Possible side effects

  • The program itself has no side effects; it helps you manage those of your medicine
  • Common GLP-1 effects: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, reflux, abdominal pain
  • Serious but less common: pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, kidney injury from dehydration
  • Boxed warning for semaglutide and tirzepatide: thyroid C-cell tumors in rodents; human risk unknown

This isn’t a complete list. Your clinician reviews risks, interactions and warnings with you before prescribing. In an emergency, call 911.

What the evidence says

Branded semaglutide (Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Zepbound) are FDA-approved for chronic weight management based on large randomized trials. NIDDK notes that weight-loss medicines work best alongside healthy eating and activity, that people who haven't lost at least 5% of their weight after 12 weeks at full dose are usually advised to stop, and that some regain is likely after stopping.

What you are paying for

This membership is clinical care, not medication. Your branded GLP-1 is prescribed, then dispensed and billed through your own pharmacy and insurance. Your program fee, from $75 a month, covers the clinician time and support around it.

That support matters. GLP-1 medicines can cause stomach side effects, change how you eat, and lead to loss of muscle as well as fat if protein and strength training are neglected. A clinician who follows you through these changes can make treatment more tolerable and the results more durable.

Who this program is for

NIDDK describes the usual eligibility for weight-loss medicines as a BMI of 30 or higher, or 27 or higher with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes. Your insurer may set its own criteria and require prior authorization.

If you have coverage, this program is likely the lowest-cost way to get structured care with HealifyMD. If you don't, other HealifyMD options include medication, but those are compounded products that are not FDA-approved and not equivalent to Wegovy or Zepbound.

How the program works month to month

After your first visit, your clinician agrees a plan with you: your dose steps according to the medicine's FDA label, a protein and activity target, and what you will track, such as weight, waist size and how you feel. You check in on a schedule set by your clinician, usually more often in the early months and after dose changes.

Between visits you can message with questions about side effects, missed doses, travel or a plateau. If something needs a change, your clinician can adjust the plan rather than leaving you to wait for your next appointment. When progress slows, the review looks at sleep, alcohol, medicines and hormones as well as the scale.

Getting through the first months

Most side effects are digestive: nausea, diarrhea, constipation, reflux and early fullness, often worse after a dose increase. Your clinician helps with practical steps such as smaller meals, slower eating, hydration, and pacing dose increases according to the label.

You will also know when to seek urgent care: severe abdominal pain that may spread to the back, persistent vomiting, signs of dehydration, or symptoms of gallbladder trouble. Tell your clinician before any surgery or sedation, as these medicines slow stomach emptying.

Protecting muscle and bone after 40

When weight comes off quickly, some of it is lean tissue. In midlife, when muscle is already harder to build, that matters for strength, balance and metabolism. Your clinician will set a protein target and encourage resistance training at least two days a week, in line with federal activity guidelines cited by NIDDK.

Where useful, your plan may include body-composition tracking or labs such as a comprehensive panel, priced separately.

Safety reminders for branded GLP-1s

Semaglutide and tirzepatide carry a boxed warning because they caused thyroid C-cell tumors in rodents; whether this happens in humans is unknown. They should not be used if you or a family member has had medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN2.

The Zepbound label also warns about pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, kidney injury linked to dehydration, low blood sugar with insulin or sulfonylureas, and reduced effectiveness of oral contraceptives after starting and after dose increases. These medicines are not used during pregnancy.

Planning for the long term

Obesity is a chronic condition, and NIDDK notes that most people regain some weight after stopping medication. Your clinician helps you think ahead: whether to continue, how to maintain progress if coverage changes, and which habits make the biggest difference.

If your insurance stops covering your medicine, your clinician can talk through alternatives and their trade-offs. The membership is from $75/month, or $150 for three months ($50/month), confirmed during your eligibility review, and care is available only in states where our clinicians are licensed.

If you decide to stop, your clinician can help you do it gradually and set up a plan for eating, activity and follow-up weigh-ins, so that any regain is noticed early and can be addressed.

Prescription treatments are available only to eligible patients after a clinical evaluation by an independently licensed clinician.

Weight Loss Program Membership: common questions

Does the membership include medication?

No. Your branded GLP-1 is dispensed and billed by your own pharmacy through your insurance. The membership covers clinical oversight.

Does HealifyMD prescribe the branded medicine?

Your clinician can discuss whether to prescribe it to your chosen pharmacy or coordinate with your current prescriber. Coverage, prior authorization and copays are set by your insurer.

What if my insurance doesn't cover a GLP-1?

This program isn't the right fit on its own. Your clinician can discuss other options, including compounded medicines, which are not FDA-approved and not equivalent to branded products.

Why pay for oversight if the medication is covered?

Many people benefit from help with side effects, dose steps, protein and strength training, and planning for maintenance. That support can make treatment easier to stick with.

Can I add labs or a CGM?

Yes. A comprehensive lab panel or continuous glucose monitor can be added at their own prices.

What happens if my coverage ends?

Your clinician helps you review alternatives and plan next steps so you aren't left without guidance.

How often will I check in?

Your clinician sets a schedule based on where you are in treatment, typically more often when starting or changing doses.
