Why your state matters
In the United States, medicine is licensed by the states, not by the federal government. A clinician generally must be licensed, or otherwise legally permitted, to practice in the state where the patient is physically located at the time of care. That rule applies to video visits and messaging just as it does to an office visit.
So the question is not where HealifyMD is based. It is whether a clinician who is licensed in your state is available to see you for the service you want.
How we confirm availability
We do not publish a fixed state list, because the answer depends on several moving parts: which clinicians are licensed where, which services they provide, and the rules each state applies to prescribing by telehealth. Instead, availability is checked during your free eligibility check.
You tell us where you live and what you are looking for. If a licensed clinician can serve you, you move forward. If not, we tell you plainly rather than leaving you to discover it later.
Why a service may differ from state to state
Even where a clinician is licensed, not every service is identical everywhere. Differences can come from:
- State rules on prescribing after a telehealth visit, including when a live video visit is required.
- Rules on controlled substances such as testosterone, which carry extra federal and state requirements.
- State pharmacy laws that affect which pharmacies can ship to you and which compounded products are allowed.
- Laboratory access and state rules on ordering lab tests.
- Changes in a clinician's licenses over time.
What about licensure compacts?
You may have heard that doctors can be licensed in many states at once. The Interstate Medical Licensure Compact offers eligible physicians a voluntary, faster pathway to obtain licenses in participating states, but each participating state still issues its own license. A compact does not create a single nationwide license.
Other professions, such as nurse practitioners, follow their own state rules. That is another reason we confirm availability individually.
If you move or travel
Your location at the time of each visit matters. If you move to a new state, update your address with your care team before your next visit or refill, because your care may need to transfer to a clinician licensed there, or may not be available in the new state.
If you are traveling during a scheduled visit, tell your care team in advance. In many cases the visit should take place while you are in a state where your clinician is licensed. Medication shipping addresses may also be limited to certain states.
Telehealth rules beyond licensing
Licensure is the main factor, but it is not the only one. Some states set specific requirements for how a clinician must establish a relationship with a new patient before prescribing, such as a real-time video visit rather than a questionnaire alone. Prescribing controlled substances, including testosterone, is also governed by federal rules on telemedicine that have been updated several times in recent years.
Your clinician follows the rules that apply in your state on the date of your visit. If a requirement means you need a live video visit, an in-person exam or a particular lab test first, your care team will tell you before anything is prescribed.
What happens if a service is not available to you
If HealifyMD cannot serve you in your state, or cannot offer the specific service you asked about, we will tell you during the eligibility check. You will not be charged for treatment you cannot receive. Your primary care clinician or a local specialist, such as a gynecologist, urologist or endocrinologist, can often help with the same concerns, and you are welcome to bring any information from our educational pages to that appointment.
Outside the United States
HealifyMD serves people located in the United States. We cannot provide visits or ship prescriptions to addresses outside the country.
Labs and in-person steps
Most of your care happens online, but lab tests usually require a blood draw at a lab location or by a trained professional. Lab access can vary by location. If your clinician orders tests, you will receive instructions that reflect where you live, and you can share recent results from your own doctor if they include what your clinician needs.
Common questions
Is HealifyMD available in my state?
Start the free eligibility check and enter where you live. We will confirm whether a licensed clinician can see you for the service you want.
Why don't you list every state you serve?
Availability depends on clinician licensing, the specific service and state rules that change over time, so we confirm it individually rather than publish a list that could go out of date.
Will I see the same clinician if I move?
Not necessarily. Your new state's licensing rules decide who can treat you, so your care may transfer to a different clinician.
Can I have a visit while on vacation in another state?
Tell your care team first. Clinicians generally must be licensed where you are physically located during the visit.
Can you ship medication to a different state than where I live?
Shipping depends on pharmacy licensing and state rules, so check with your care team before changing your shipping address.
Do you serve patients outside the U.S.?
No. HealifyMD care and prescriptions are limited to people located in the United States.
