How New Hampshire PSD Letter works
Book a telehealth evaluation and describe your symptoms and what your dog is trained to do. If the clinician approves, your signed letter is emailed within 24 hours after approval for use with a New Hampshire landlord. If you don't qualify, no letter is issued.
Who it’s for, and who it isn’t
May be a fit
- New Hampshire handlers whose dog is trained for psychiatric disability tasks
- Renters who want documentation to support a housing request
- Handlers with up to 3 trained dogs
Usually not a fit
- Animals that aren't service animals; dressing them in a vest or harness is unlawful in New Hampshire
- Comfort dogs without trained tasks; consider an ESA letter
- Anyone under 18
What’s included
- Telehealth evaluation with a licensed clinician
- Signed letter with license type, number and state
- $149 covers 1 or 2 dogs; $229 covers 3
- Emailed within 24 hours after approval
Possible side effects
- No medical side effects
- RSA 167-D also forbids lying about having a disability, or about being a trainer, to obtain service dog accommodations
- You remain responsible for your dog's behaviour and damage
This isn’t a complete list. Your clinician reviews risks, interactions and warnings with you before prescribing. In an emergency, call 911.
What the evidence says
HUD's May 2026 enforcement guidance presumes housing requests for task-trained animals are reasonable. The ADA limits businesses to two questions. New Hampshire's RSA 167-D adds state rights in housing and public places, protects trainers under RSA 167-D:6 and makes violations a misdemeanor under RSA 167-D:10.
New Hampshire service animal law
- RSA 167-D:4 lets a service animal go with its handler or trainer into housing, public facilities and businesses
- Under RSA 167-D:6, a person who is training a service animal has the access a handler would have
- Under RSA 167-D:8, dressing a non-service animal in service gear, such as a vest, harness or sign, is against the law
- RSA 167-D:10 makes violations a misdemeanor, with tougher penalties for injuring a working service animal
Public places under the ADA
Staff are limited to two questions: is the dog required because of a disability, and what has it been trained to do. They can't insist on a letter.
If you're refused housing in New Hampshire
The New Hampshire Commission for Human Rights takes housing discrimination complaints under RSA 354-A. HUD takes federal complaints.
Prescription treatments are available only to eligible patients after a clinical evaluation by an independently licensed clinician.
