How Missouri PSD Letter works
Book a telehealth evaluation and explain your symptoms and your dog's trained tasks. If the clinician approves, your signed letter is emailed within 24 hours, ready to support a Missouri housing request. If you don't qualify, no letter is issued.
Who it’s for, and who it isn’t
May be a fit
- Missouri handlers whose dog is trained to perform psychiatric disability tasks
- Renters who need a letter to support a housing request
- Handlers with up to 3 trained dogs
Usually not a fit
- Dogs that have not been trained for disability-related tasks; dressing them as service dogs breaks Missouri law
- Comfort-only dogs; an ESA letter is the honest option
- Anyone under 18
What’s included
- Telehealth evaluation with a licensed clinician
- Signed letter with license type, number and state
- $149 for up to 2 dogs; $229 for up to 3
- Emailed within 24 hours after approval
Possible side effects
- No medical side effects
- Putting a vest or harness on an untrained dog counts as misrepresentation under RSMo 209.204
- Handlers in Missouri remain responsible for damage the dog causes to premises
This isn’t a complete list. Your clinician reviews risks, interactions and warnings with you before prescribing. In an emergency, call 911.
What the evidence says
HUD's May 2026 enforcement guidance presumes housing requests for task-trained dogs are reasonable. The ADA limits businesses to two questions and no documentation. Missouri adds RSMo 209.150 for public access without extra charges, RSMo 209.152 for trainers, and RSMo 209.204 against faked service dogs.
Missouri service dog rules
- Under RSMo 209.150, a disabled handler can take a trained service dog into public places and can't be charged extra for it
- RSMo 209.152 lets a trainer from a recognised training centre bring a dog in training, within what the ADA allows
- A vest or harness on a dog with no disability-related training is misrepresentation under RSMo 209.204
- Businesses may display a state placard welcoming service dogs and warning that misrepresentation is illegal
Public places under the ADA
Staff may ask if a disability makes the dog necessary and which task it performs. They can't require a letter, so you don't need ours for shops or restaurants. You do remain responsible for any damage your dog causes.
Missouri housing and your PSD
A landlord may ask for reliable information about a need that isn't obvious. A clinician's letter covers that. If you're refused, contact the Missouri Commission on Human Rights or HUD.
Prescription treatments are available only to eligible patients after a clinical evaluation by an independently licensed clinician.
