What the monthly TRT price covers

Your monthly TRT price covers the testosterone your clinician prescribes, dispensing and shipping from a licensed U.S. pharmacy, and the ongoing clinical oversight that safe testosterone therapy needs: dose reviews, follow-up visits and adjustments based on how you feel and what your labs show.

The first month is priced higher because starting therapy takes more work. Your clinician reviews your history and symptoms, confirms the diagnosis is supported by your test results, talks through risks such as effects on fertility, and sets your starting plan. The first month also includes the lab panel, and your eligibility review will confirm exactly what else it includes.

Why lab work is part of the budget

Testosterone therapy is not something a responsible clinician prescribes on symptoms alone. The American Urological Association recommends two early-morning total testosterone measurements on separate occasions, together with symptoms or signs, before diagnosing testosterone deficiency. It also recommends checking hemoglobin and hematocrit before treatment starts, because testosterone can raise red blood cell counts.

Once you're on therapy, monitoring continues. Clinicians typically recheck testosterone, hematocrit and, depending on your age and risk, PSA at intervals. At HealifyMD those tests are billed separately at the prices on our lab testing page, so you always see what you're paying for testing versus treatment.

  • Before starting: confirmatory morning testosterone tests and baseline blood counts
  • Early in treatment: a check to see where your levels land and how your blood counts respond
  • Ongoing: periodic monitoring at the schedule your clinician sets

What a year of TRT might cost

Using our listed prices, the treatment portion of your first year is $249 for month one plus eleven months at $149, which comes to $1,888. The first month includes the lab panel; each additional Comprehensive Lab Panel you need adds $199. In a later year, twelve months at $149 is $1,788, or $1,800 as four 3-month refill packages, before labs.

These are illustrations based on list prices, not a quote. The number of lab draws you need depends on your results and your clinician's judgment, and your final price is confirmed at your eligibility review.

A lower-cost alternative some men consider

For some men with low testosterone, especially those who want to preserve fertility, a clinician may discuss enclomiphene instead of testosterone. Our compounded Enclomiphene / DHEA / Boron / Pregnenolone ODT starts at $129 per month, or $349 for 3 months ($116 per month). It works differently, by encouraging your own testosterone production rather than replacing it, and it is compounded and not FDA-approved. Whether it fits depends on your diagnosis and goals, which your clinician will review with you.

Insurance and TRT

Some insurance plans cover testosterone therapy for diagnosed hypogonadism, often with prior authorization and documented low morning levels. If you have that coverage and a local clinician, insured care may cost you less, and it's worth checking. HealifyMD prices are self-pay prices.

Testosterone is a controlled substance, so prescriptions follow specific federal and state rules regardless of who pays. Compounded alternatives such as enclomiphene are generally not covered by pharmacy benefits.

Using an HSA or FSA

IRS guidance treats prescribed medicines and lab fees that are part of medical care as medical expenses. Whether your specific purchase qualifies is decided by your plan, though, so ask your plan administrator before paying and keep your receipts.

How to compare TRT prices fairly

Advertised testosterone prices can be hard to line up against each other. One clinic quotes the medication alone, another bundles visits, and a third charges a separate membership on top. When you compare, add up everything you'd pay over a full year rather than looking at a single monthly figure.

Ask each option the same questions: Is there a membership or visit fee? Are labs included, and how many draws a year? What form of testosterone is used, and who adjusts the dose if your hematocrit climbs? A low sticker price matters less than whether the plan includes the monitoring that keeps testosterone therapy safe over years.

  • Any membership, visit or cancellation fees
  • Who monitors hematocrit, PSA and symptoms, and how often

Common questions

How much is TRT per month at HealifyMD?

It's $249 for the first month, including the lab panel, and $149 per month after that, with follow-up labs billed separately.

Why is the first month more expensive?

Starting therapy involves a fuller clinical evaluation, the lab panel and plan setup. Your eligibility review confirms what else the first month covers.

Do I really need blood tests?

Yes. Guidelines call for confirmed low morning testosterone before diagnosis and for blood count monitoring during treatment, so testing is part of safe care.

Is enclomiphene cheaper than TRT?

Our compounded enclomiphene ODT starts at $129 per month, or $116 per month on a 3-month package, versus $149 for TRT after month one. It's a different treatment with different trade-offs, and it isn't FDA-approved.

Will TRT affect my fertility?

It can lower sperm production. If you may want children, tell your clinician before starting; a Male Fertility Test is available for $299.

Can I stop TRT whenever I want?

You can stop paying for future months, but stopping testosterone should be planned with your clinician because your own production may take time to recover.

Can I use HSA or FSA funds?

It depends on your plan. Ask your plan administrator before paying.
